Independence Day is a fixed point in the school year across the Devgiri Region. After the flag is hoisted, many schools follow Vande Mataram, the national anthem and Surya Namaskar.
2026 marks 150 years of Vande Mataram. Vidya Bharti is observing the year nationally, and Devgiri schools have been teaching students the song’s meaning and history.
Some schools also remembered local figures from the freedom struggle, including the Marathwada liberation movement and satyagraha in Khandesh — a way of teaching regional history.
Several campuses followed the assembly with cleanliness drives, tree planting and service. For Vidya Bharti, patriotism is meant to be practised, not only spoken from a stage.
